Update: After a lot of thought we have reluctantly cancelled the BDO Taranaki Cycle Challenge that was to have been held in January 2021. The present day Covid19 situation places a great amount of uncertainty & stress around the organising of big events. We have made the decision early to allow our many out of town participants time to rearrange any plans they may have had. We especially want to thank BDO Taranaki who were prepared to continue as the major sponsor.
The Taranaki Cycle Challenge has become one of New Zealand’s premier road cycle events with over 1000, competitive and recreational cyclists enjoying the day. This event is always held on the Auckland/Bay of Plenty Anniversary weekend and is Taranaki’s longest running Around The Mountain recreational cycling ride.
What an amazing day we had in New Plymouth January 2019, perfect weather conditions and lightning quick times were again the order of the day. “We have an amazing team who contributed to make the day a huge success – thank you everyone who helped ” Thanks to all who entered”. We look forward to seeing you all again in 2020
E bikes are growing in popularity so we have added a new E bike category this year with only one entry we may not continue this category. The seperate Mountain Bike event proved very popular
7 hardy souls competed in the Solo 2 laps so we will keep this in the mix: Starts at 1.30am. We will provide a tail end Charlie, however you need to be self supporting for the first lap. 4 Mechanics & St John’s on course, water, electrolyte, toilets at all relay changes on 2nd lap. On completing your 1st lap check in at the start area corner Rogan and Gover Street.
A huge thanks to BTW for developing an interactive map for our event. This was a big help to out of town support vehicle traffic in particular. atmcyclerace.btw.nz
